Einstein's Quotes

Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879 – April 18, 1955), the famous theoretical physicist, developed the theory of relativity and is considered the father of modern physics.   The nuclear physicist Robert Oppenheimer shared his impressions of Einstein by saying, “He was almost wholly without sophistication and wholly without worldliness . . . There was always with him a wonderful purity at once childlike and profoundly stubborn.”
Due to his brilliance Einstein was often called upon to offer opinions on topics beyond the realm of physics; thus the wide range of inspired quotations.

“Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.”
“Everything should be as simple as it is, but not simpler.”
“Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.”

“Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.” –
“Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.”
“The splitting of the atom has changed everything except for how we think.”
“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”
“A human being is part of a whole called by us the universe.”
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
“If there is any religion would cope with modern scientific needs, it would be Buddhism.”
“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”
“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.”
“A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be. “
“A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.”
“A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy?”
“A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?”
“All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree.”
“Anyone who doesn’t take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted in large ones either.”
“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex… It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.”
“Anger dwells only in the bosom of fools.”
“Concern for man and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical endeavors. Never forget this in the midst of your diagrams and equations.”
“Everyone should be respected as an individual, but no one idolized.”
“All that is valuable in human society depends upon the opportunity for development accorded the individual.”
“Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions.”
“He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.”
“I am not only a pacifist but a militant pacifist. I am willing to fight for peace. Nothing will end war unless the people themselves refuse to go to war.”
“I believe that a simple and unassuming manner of life is best for everyone, best both for the body and the mind.”
“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.”
“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”
“Information is not knowledge.”
“Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.”
“Intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them.”
“It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.”
“Joy in looking and comprehending is nature’s most beautiful gift.”
Upon refusing surgery at the age of 76, he said:  “I want to go when I want. It is tasteless to prolong life artificially. I have done my share, it is time to go. I will do it elegantly.”

What is that strange Bear scene in The Shining about (and is it a bear)?

The "bear scene" is a brief moment in The Shining when Wendy, beginning to see the same "1920's Party" events that Jack's been seeing, is wandering through the halls of the hotel. As she looks around a corner, she sees two shapes huddled over the edge of a bed. As she looks, they are revealed to be two men, possibly engaged in oral sex. One is wearing what looks to be a bear costume.

The scene is taken directly from Stephen King's novel. In one of the novel's scenes set in the 1920's party, Jack is dancing with a beautiful woman. He notices that at one table, there is a young man behaving like a pet dog for the amusement of others, including a tall, bald man.

The bald man is Horace Derwent, a Howard Hughes-like figure who poured millions into restoring the Overlook Hotel in the 1920's. (Jack has learned this by reading a mysterious scrapbook earlier in the novel.) The younger man has a romantic crush on the bisexual Derwent, and Derwent has said that 'maybe', if the man dresses like a nice doggy, and acts like a nice doggy, he 'may' be willing to sleep with him.

Later on, in the novel, as Wendy is warily navigating the corridors of the Overlook, she begins to see the visions of the 1920's party. And at one point, peering around a corner, she sees the two men on a bed, one in a doggy costume. The two men are Derwent and his extremely dependent lover.

It's difficult to say why this second scene remains in the film; as it's somewhat confounding without all of the set-up that King provides in his book. Perhaps its jarring incongruity is reason enough for its inclusion, illustrating as it does Wendy's extreme disorientation at that point in the film. Another explanation is that the background on Derwent may have been scripted and filmed, but excised in the final cut.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

Wish Them Well

We want to be free
But not only for we Jah
We want to see
If only to be free Jah

And what if they were happier when they were wrong?
Tell them all about your hell yeah
If only to see…blinded by your failures

Oh Jah see them, dancing, loving the children’s heart
As they’re beating towards you
As they moving towards you
Remember yourselves, in your going, coming, going
All about behaviour, dem behaviour

Sold dem soul man dem can’t see
Life they chose and no one else
I wish them heart could pay dem well, wo-oh, wo-oh
If you wish, please wish them well
Oh-yeah, oh-yeah, now

They say we’re free, but not to be free
From all of their jails yeah
We want to see and know what is their crime man
What is your main goal?

O-o-oh Lord, oh-o-oh Jah
Tell dem what’s in store (2x)
For our children, the children
And what dem got? Broken heart in hand
Trying to make sense of the world yeah,
De man a world yeah

Sold dem soul man dem can’t see, wo-oh, yeah-ah
Life they chose and no one else
I wish them heart could pay dem well, wo-oh, wo-oh
If you wish, please wish them well
Oh-yeah, oh-yeah, now

What of today? What of tomorrow?
What if them sold themselves?
Just as them come walking out
And they could not see the light
Brave and great Marcus light

Oh-oh the man a yard and gold pon a delion,
De Lord yeah
A de a man a, de a man a fling rock-stone
On a Joshua world yeah, oh

Now then if I,
Wouldn’t long to see the faces shinning sun
So I man awaiting the break storm wind,
And thunder control them
Once again a,
De man a chant as if the soldier come a talk,
But dem brought dem soldier
Longer is the day them will come to chant
Ah-a-a-a-I, de man a chant, ah-a-a-a-I, de man a chant
Ah-a-a-a-I, oh dem man a chant, ah-a-a-a-I
For long dem soul, for long dem soul

Bob Marley One Drop Lyrics:

Feel it in the one drop;
And we'll still find time to rap;
We're makin' the one stop,
The generation gap;
Now feel this drumbeat
As it beats within,
Playin' a riddim,
Resisting against the system, ooh-wee!

I know Jah's never let us down;
Pull your rights from wrong
(I know Jah would never let us down)
Oh, no! Oh, no! Oh, no!
They made their world so hard (so hard):
Every day we got to keep on fighting (fighting);
They made their world so hard (so hard):
Every day the people are dyin' (dying), yeah!
(It dread, dread) For hunger (dread, dread) and starvation
(dread, dread, dread, dread),
Lamentation (dread dread),
But read it in Revelation (dread, dread, dread, dread):
You'll find your redemption
And then you give us the teachings of His Majesty,
For we no want no devil philosophy;
A you fe give us the teachings of His Majesty,
A we no want no devil philosophy:

Feel it in the one drop;
And we still find time to rap;
We're making the one stop,
And we filling the gap:
So feel this drumbeat
As it beats within
Playing a riddim, uh!
Fighting against ism and skism,

Singing: I know Jah's never let us down;
Pull your rights from wrong:
I know Jah's never let us down.
Oh, no! Oh, no! Oh, no!
They made their world so hard
Every day (we got to keep on fighting), every day;
They made their world so hard
Every day (the people are dying), eh!
(dread, dread, it dread, dread) Oh, whoa! Make dem a-go on so:
(dread, dread, it dread on dread) Ah, whoa!
(dread, dread) I'll walk (it dread, dread)
Ah, whoa! Frighten dem, ah whoa!
(dread, dread) Ah, whoa! Frighten dem, eh!
Give us the teachings of His Majesty - with a stick-up!
We no want no devil philosophy. Can you hear?
Give us the teachings of His Majesty,
For we no want no devil philosophy.

We feel it in the one drop; you're lucky!
For we still got time to rap,
And we're making the one stop
Let me tell ya: this generation gap.
So feel this drumbeat;
I tell you what: it's beating within
Feel you heart playing a riddim

Lowdown in lodi (Freddy King), Lyric and Tabs:

It's been so many years ago, that I set out on the road
lookin' for my fame and fortune, searchin' for a pot of gold
things got bad, and things got worse, and I sing the same old blues
Lord I'm stuckin' in Lodi down again

Rode in on the Greyhound, I'll be walkin' out if I go
I was just passin' through, but it must be seven years or more
I ran out of time and money, now my baby she's gone again
Lord I'm stuck in Lodi down again

Yes I wish I had a dollar, for every song I sung
everything I have to play
while people sat down and drink
you know I've got the midnite train, and I go back where I live,
But Lord I'm stuck in Lodi down again.

...random?

(stumble = passo falso)

re-arrange (the gladiators)

I'm hoping and I'm praying
That very soon things would re-arrange
Too much innocent blood have shed
Our heart cries out, our soul grieve

If man would start to meditate
We would all see what been buggin' us

They've been fooled by our fellow man
And taught the way to rob and kill

But remember one and all
No one is free till ev'ry man is free

Don't ax what your country can do for you
The question is what you can do for it...

HOW TO SING THE BLUES

Ho trovato questo foglio nel web e non ho potuto evitare di postarlo sul mio blog:

HOW TO SING THE BLUES

by Lame Mango Washington
(attributed to Memphis Earlene Gray with help from Uncle Plunky, revisions by Little Blind Patti D. and Dr. Stevie Franklin)

1. Most Blues begin, "Woke up this morning."

2. "I got a good woman" is a bad way to begin the Blues, 'less you stick something nasty in the next line, like " I got a good woman, with the meanest face in town."

3. The Blues is simple. After you get the first line right, repeat it. Then find something that rhymes ... sort of: "Got a good woman - with the meanest face in town. Got teeth like Margaret Thatcher - and she weigh 500 pound."

4. The Blues are not about choice. You stuck in a ditch, you stuck in a ditch; ain't no way out.

5. Blues cars: Chevys and Cadillacs and broken-down trucks. Blues don't travel in Volvos, BMWs, or Sport Utility Vehicles. Most Blues transportation is a Greyhound bus or a southbound train. Jet aircraft an' state-sponsored motor pools ain't even in the running. Walkin' plays a major part in the blues lifestyle. So does fixin' to die.

6. Teenagers can't sing the Blues. They ain't fixin' to die yet. Adults sing the Blues. In Blues, " adulthood" means being old enough to get the electric chair if you shoot a man in Memphis.

7. Blues can take place in New York City but not in Hawaii or any place in Canada. Hard times in St. Paul or Tucson is just depression. Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City still the best places to have the Blues. You cannot have the blues in any place that don't get rain.

8. A man with male pattern baldness ain't the blues. A woman with male pattern baldness is. Breaking your leg cuz you skiing is not the blues. Breaking your leg cuz an alligator be chomping on it is.

9. You can't have no Blues in an office or a shopping mall. The lighting is wrong. Go outside to the parking lot or sit by the dumpster.

10. Good places for the Blues:

a. highway
b. jailhouse
c. empty bed
d. bottom of a whiskey glass

Bad places:

a. Ashrams
b. gallery openings
c. Ivy League institutions
d. golf courses

11. No one will believe it's the Blues if you wear a suit, 'less you happen to be an old ethnic person, and you slept in it.

12. Do you have the right to sing the Blues? Yes, if:

a. you're older than dirt
b. you're blind
c. you shot a man in Memphis
d. you can't be satisfied

No, if:

a. you have all your teeth
b. you were once blind but now can see
c. the man in Memphis lived.
d. you have a retirement plan or trust fund.

13. Blues is not a matter of color. It's a matter of bad luck. Tiger Woods cannot sing the blues. Gary Coleman could. Ugly white people also got a leg up on the blues.

2010 update : Tiger can nowadays sing the blues.
You know like this:
I got a good woman,
but she beats me with iron seven
Im f$^%ing everything whats moving
and I will not go to heaven.
and then some rhymes about stress - mistress etc. :)

14. If you ask for water and Baby give you gasoline, it's the Blues.

Other acceptable Blues beverages are:

a. wine
b. whiskey or bourbon
c. muddy water
d. black coffee

The following are NOT Blues beverages:

a. mixed drinks
b. kosher wine
c. Snapple
d. sparkling water

15. If it occurs in a cheap motel or a shotgun shack, it's a Blues death. Stabbed in the back by a jealous lover is another Blues way to die. So is the electric chair, substance abuse, and dying lonely on a broken down cot. You can't have a Blues death if you die during a tennis match or getting liposuction.

16. Some Blues names for women:

a. Sadie
b. Big Mama
c. Bessie
d. Fat River Dumpling

17. Some Blues names for men:

a. Joe
b. Willie
c. Little Willie
d. Big Willie

18. Persons with names like Sierra, Sequoia, Auburn, and Rainbow can't sing the Blues no matter how many men they shoot in Memphis.

19. Make your own Blues name (starter kit):

a. name of physical infirmity (Blind, Cripple, Lame, etc.)
b. first name (see above) plus name of fruit (Lemon, Lime, Kiwi, etc.)
c. last name of President (Jefferson, Johnson, Fillmore, etc.)

For example, Blind Lime Jefferson, or Cripple Kiwi Fillmore, etc.

(Well, maybe not "Kiwi.")

20. I don't care how tragic your life: you own a computer, you cannot sing the blues. You best destroy it. Fire, a spilled bottle of Mad Dog, or get out a shotgun. I don't care.

"The Happiest Day"
The happiest day -- the happiest hour
My sear'd and blighted heart hath known,
The highest hope of pride and power,
I feel hath flown.

Of power! said I? yes! such I ween;
But they have vanish'd long, alas!
The visions of my youth have been-
But let them pass.

And, pride, what have I now with thee?
Another brow may even inherit
The venom thou hast pour'd on me
Be still, my spirit!

The happiest day -- the happiest hour
Mine eyes shall see -- have ever seen,
The brightest glance of pride and power,
I feel- have been:

But were that hope of pride and power
Now offer'd with the pain
Even then I felt -- that brightest hour
I would not live again:

For on its wing was dark alloy,
And, as it flutter'd -- fell
An essence -- powerful to destroy
A soul that knew it well.

Seventy-two tries on a very gnarly rail add up to one of the most wicked slams of all time.
Johnzo hit his head so hard that his eyes were bleeding. This photo that Luke Og
